WPL vs Southern Branch (Sun 14 May)

WPL First Grade.   Won 9 – 1

A goal scoring feast by us today.  Not going to mention each goal but it was definitely a good team effort.  It was a game of two halves.  We won the first half 6-0 but Southern came out hard in the 2nd half, which we knew they would.  Second half score 3-1.

It was great to see the goals shared around today.  A big effort from Raegan who managed to put away 4.  Jordy was second on the list with 3 and Jess and Dani both put 1 away as well.

I am sure the girls will say that one of the highlights of the day was the half time talk by the manager.  Another was the lovely 4 SAP girls that came along and were our ball girls.  You did a great job girls.

Great to see Nicole back playing first grade.

A big week ahead girls, train hard, tough opposition at Nepean next week.  Great 9 points for the club this weekend for the club championship.

Reserve Grade

On Sunday the 14th of May, it was Mother’s Day and the girls were ready to win one for their mum against Southern Branch.  We started with a bang, fast pace passes and combination play that we had been practicing at training. It all came together with our first two goals scored by Nicole on her debut back from injury. Shortly after another two hit the back of the net by Kristen and one more by Maddie which ended the first half. Second half we came back on with some new tactics and strategies which became useful however the Southern Branch keeper got to every ball and kept us from scoring. The game came to end with Sutherland walking away with the three points and a clean sheet sending the Reserve grade squad to first place on the ladder.   (By Maddie)

WPL 17. SSFA def Southern branch 4-0

Happy Mothers Day.

The girls came into this match on the back of two wins and a draw and were looking to build on that momentum. From the start of play Sutherland pressed the opposition giving them no time, winning the ball and launching attacking runs down both flanks with quality crosses flying in from both sides of HD pitch, only to be scrambled away by Southern Branch.

The work rate to recover possession and maintain it never stopped, every player putting in 100% and working as a team, the backline were rock solid and gave Southern nothing to work with, the midfield were relentless in breaking them down when they tried to play out, holding possession and building quality attacking opportunities. Something had to give from the continual pressure, a penalty was awarded for a handball 20 minutes in which Bec slotted well. 1 nil up at halftime.

The second half started like the first half with the girls continuing their dominant display the pressure paid off with Leanna scoring off a quality thru ball from Georgia early in the half. The team continued working the ball well creating goal scoring opportunities, which were only denied by good goalkeeping, desperate defence and the wood work. Midway thru the second half Bella finished off another solid team build up play with Leanna making it beyond doubt with 5 minutes to go.

A Solid effort from the team, special thanks to our fill in keepers Emma and Akala who when called upon were faultless and our super subs from u15s.

WPL U13’s def Southern Branch. Result 3-1 win

We are definitely a great team to be one of the leading places on the ladder, and our win against Southern Branch topped it off! We had some lovely switches of play and some great through balls. Aeisha definitely showed off her defensive skills in the back line today and made some really great runs up the line. We had some great shots knocked in by Meagan and a little slide in goal. Abbey got a nose to the ground and still played as hard as she could and saved us a lot of trouble on the field and Milly did some great runs up the side and took on a lot of players. Nicole had some great turns and gave great instructions to our 6&8, Georgia had some funny kicks at goal with some great action shots, whilst Tara was around chasing every pass and demanding every ball. Guiles almost had a fantastic goal and was great with supporting other players. Bella had some great tackles, was very aggressive and kept her concentration through out the whole game. Bee worked her way around many players, Jade with her lovely corners , and Lucy chucking a couple tricks in once in a while. Tilly ran past every single one of there players and beat everyone of them, and thank you so much to our great cheer leader Zoe!! I loved playing in goals, need to work on a bit but tried my best! The girls together did quite well but there’s a lot to work on like just focusing on slowing down the play and making sure our passes are 100% and our touches are soft and out in front, we need to make sure we don’t get caught square with our 3&4 and with all of these things we will be the future Matilda’s! Looking forward to our next game! (Brodie)

AYL vs Northern Suburbs (Sat 13 May)

U15 AYL Won  2-0

Scorers: Ethan, OG (Hudson)

A super quick start down the right with a great run by Tim & a goal to Ethan within a minute. Sutho played some great one twos with Ethan & Sam destroying them down the right. The defence was strong with Northern Suburbs having no shots on goal in first half. Whilst Sutho dominated possession & territory our final passes in the box were poor and 4 shots over the bar let us down & it was only 1-0 at half time.

Again another fast start in 2nd half with a great cross by Hudson for own goal by Northern Suburbs  goalie within 2 minutes. Great shots from Hudson & Bushy produced some fine saves by Northern Suburbs  goalie, but again our shooting was poor. Whilst we never looked in trouble some unnecessary & selfish heroic lost ball self runs & passes slowed our play down & made the score very flattering for Northern Suburbs.
