WPL First Grade vs Central Coast. Won 3 – 1
Even though the draw said round 3, it seemed more like round 1 for us. After the weather decided to play havoc with our first round match against Gladesville, the break for Easter and then the bye, it seemed like we just started.
We took the 3 points week 1 against Gladesville Ravens with goals to Georgia, Jordy and Dani. Unlucky not have netted a few more but not a bad result with all the disruptions prior to game.
Yesterday seen us travel up the M1 to an unexpected Central Coast team. With the signing of some new players in the off-season, we weren’t too sure what to expect. With the 2 weeks off our girls came out a little slow. Central Coast scored in the first minute.
Our girls dug deep and finally got themselves into gear and played some good and gutsy football to once again walk away with the 3 points. All girls played really well with Jordy scoring 2 goals and Dani 1. Still things to improve on but looking like it is going to be a very positive season for us. Look forward to Inter next week at Concord. Well done girls.
WPL17’s – SSFA (1) vs Central Coast (1)
First Half:
Five minutes into the match Bridget had a shot at goal and we were looking strong. Unfortunately, 5 minutes later, a long range shot from Central Coast went in between Emma’s great leap and the crossbar to leave the score at 0-1. It was to be Central Coast’s only decent shot at goal in a game where we dominated possession. Emily had a strong game in defence not letting anything get through to the keeper. We had a few shots at goal, including a spectacular shot by Brodie, assisted by Georgia (Captain), that hit the crossbar. Some great combination play between Emily, Georgia, Bridget and Brodie as well as Bec, Brodie, Bella and Georgia, just couldn’t see us convert that into a goal.
Second Half:
The second half kicked off and the girls were back with intensity. A foul just outside the 18-yard box left Emily to take a free kick, which was unlucky to fall into the keeper’s hands. Some beautiful corners were taken by the likes of Georgia and Christina, although the girls were unable to find the back of the net. After a lot of hard effort, the girls made a break and a well-timed ball from Georgia came down the right side of the goal and found Bridget who slotted it into the bottom left corner to make it 1-1. The possession was kept in their half the rest of the game, but we were unable to get a hand over them with the game ending in a draw. A great effort all round by the girls
WPL 15’s. 1-1 Draw
Our first game this season was against Central Coast at their home ground Pluim Park.
The girls played really well considering it was our first game together. We were all very excited and nervous but held it together quite well . In the first half we had opportunities to score but their defence was very strong.
We had good composure to keep it down their end and this put pressure on them . Towards the end of that half they hit a lucky goal but in the second half we struck back hard and showed more determination and hunger for the ball .
Overall , We worked well as a team and as a result we got a penalty and scored levelling the match at 1 all.

AYL Under 14s. Round 7 v Central Coast – Win 3 – 0
Round 7 saw us travel to the Central Coast to take on the 2nd placed team who had started the season strongly. The pitch looked in wonderful condition and the stage was set for a great game.
As recent games have shown we are slow starters and today was no different with CC in control early, with an excellent passing game making our boys have to defend hard.
Sutherland slowly got on top of our opponent and we showed the fast attacking game that has been successful this year.
Unfortunately, a strong challenge and collision saw Richard, our goalie, off to hospital with a broken arm. Peter from U13’s was quick to accept the challenge.
The boys were now more determined and a great attacking move was rewarded with a scrappy goal, and we led 1 nil. Soon after the continued pressure paid off and we went into half time 2 nil up.
The coaches asked the boys for a greater effort and the second half started well with a display of dominant passing game and use of the wide flanks. Soon we had our third and went on to dominate the 2nd half for a 3-nil win.
Our best wishes to Richard who will be out for a few weeks, and thank you to Peter who filled in admirably.
U15 AYL vs Central Coast FA
Score: 1-4 loss. Scorers: Chris
First half. Today we learnt what the benchmark was to be for this years competition against a high quality Central coast team. Unfortunately we got played off the pitch by a very skillful team that hassled & chased us all day. We stood off from the opposition players too much allowing them way too much time on the ball & got punished with 4 goals against us. Poor ball control due to the intense pressure being exerted by Central coast resulted in little continuity of play for us & we spent minimal time in the Central coast half not getting a corner until half way through the second half. Central coast took a deservedly 1-0 lead at HT.
The second half was similar to the 1st half with too many long panic balls making it way too easy for the 2 giant Central coast centre backs. Eventually in last 15 minutes we began to put more pressure on there players & got our 1st corner with a header in by Chris to celebrate his 15th birthday. However full credit to Central coast who played some great football & showed some wonderful skills to keep possession & keep us under pressure for most of the game. In the last 15 minutes the boys showed glimpses that they could match Central coast & we have another 2 games to pick up our game & hopefully exact revenge.
